Active Release Technique (ART) is a soft tissue technique that helps

treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (connective tissue). It can be used to treat tight muscles, muscle spasm, breakdown scar tissue and a variety of other musculoskeletal conditions. It is very effective in helping you regain a loss of musculoskeletal function within a region of the body.
When muscles (and other soft tissues) are overused, three types of problems may result:
Acute conditions such as pulls, tears, muscle spasm or contracture.
Small tears resulting from repetitive motion or holding a specific posture for prolonged periods (micro-trauma)
Lack of oxygen to the injured area
Your body responds to these occurrences by producing dense scar tissue in the problem area. This scar tissue restricts healthy tissues, preventing them from moving freely. As more scar tissue builds, your muscles weaken and become shorter and the tension that is placed on the tendons might cause tendon inflammation or tendonitis. Eventually, all of this leads to a reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain.
During ART the patient moves the affected structure while the clinician applies pressure to the area. This allows the practitioner to feel the structure as it moves under their contact, and to effectively treat those restricted muscles, tendons, or ligaments.
ART is a specific, targeted treatment, and patients often see results within 3-6 visits. ART is just one of the techniques Sheena uses to treat musculoskeletal problems.
